UP AND coming sprinter Hooksy set Sandown Park a light last Thursday night, confirming his status as one of the future stars in greyhound racing, making it back to back wins at the Springvale circuit.
Starting as the $1.80 short priced favourite, Hooksy was slow out of the boxes but shortly mustered superior speed securing second position entering the back straight, by that stage it was game set match.
Hooksy recorded the fastest time of the night, stopping the clock at a low flying time of 29.20, just four lengths outside of the track record.
Having only turned two-years-of-age earlier this month the talented sprinter has the world at his feet and is undoubtedly a greyhound capable of big things.
With the RSN Sandown Cup fast approaching, three heats over the 715 metre trip were also on show last Thursday night, with plenty of owners and trainers preparing their stayers for the series.
Kelly Bravo’s Alpe D’Huez secured his maiden win over the 715m, storming home to get the better of early leader Speed Lane. Lethal Three completed a winning double for the Bravo kennel, and the highly talented Sisco Rage winning the third of the three heats for owner and trainer John Galea.
2012 RSN Sandown Cup finalist and multiple Group 1 winner Destini Fireball, recently came out of retirement after claiming his second Group 1 Super Stayers title, increasing his prize money total to an astonishing $629,395.
A second consecutive Sandown Cup campaign will have him in the box seat to eclipse Miata’s prize money record of $715,508.
