WORKS on a $7.5 million State Volleyball Centre will kick off next month in Dandenong after councillors voted to award a construction contract this week.
ADCO Constructions, whose Melbourne office is based in Hawthorn, will build the new State Volleyball Centre to be located at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium in Stud Road.
Greater Dandenong Council will contribute just under $2 million to the project, with the State Government chipping in the rest.
Works will kick off next month, and according to an officer’s report, the project must be completed within 12 months.
Volleyball Victoria executive director Terry Jones said in a statement that the State Volleyball Centre would be the first of its kind in Australia.
“Under the proposed plans the existing Dandenong Basketball Stadium, situated in Stud Road, Dandenong, will be extended to include six dedicated indoor volleyball courts and two beach volleyball courts, new changing facilities adjoining the volleyball courts and new offices at which Volleyball Victoria staff would be based,” he said.
“There are currently seven basketball courts plus the show courts. When the project is completed there will be six basketball courts plus the show court.”
The development will also include a new entry, new cafe and replacement of car parking facilities.
