TWENTY-SIX pairs of swim goggles, 10 rugby balls and 15 basketballs are just some of the used sporting equipment that Commonwealth Games organisers are sending to Greater Dandenong.
The gear used by elite athletes at the Games in March will find a home across the municipality as part of a $1.6 million statewide giveaway.
Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews this week said Greater Dandenong would receive 26 pairs of goggles, five synchro stretch foam mats, 10 rugby and 15 basketball balls, a basketball carrier, two boxing hook and jab pads, and various weights used in the weightlifting competition.
“Our local sporting clubs will be among the beneficiaries sharing in more than 2500 pieces of world-class equipment,” he said.
“This injection of equipment into grassroots sport will play a fundamental role in increasing participation level across Victoria.
“The equipment will be distributed across all levels of sport to encourage people of all abilities and backgrounds to get more physically active and involved.”
