Shooters have trash clean in their sights

SPORTING shooters from Springvale collected more than 20 bags of rubbish from Sandown Railway Station as part of this month’s Clean Up Australia Day activity.
The Springvale Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia women’s group, with help from the club’s junior shooters, zipped down to Sandown Railway Station on 4 March in a bid to raise their profile within the community.
To their surprise, women’s group member Zdenka McCaskill said they collected over 20 bags of rubbish.
They also found an assortment of items including two mattresses, a used tyre, an old television and discarded household items.
“All of this took a few hours to collect, but it has done a lot for the environment we live in,” Ms McGaskill said.
“Everyone was proud to be involved.”
Ms McGaskill said the group was aiming to take part in more community events to raise the group’s profile and battle the bad image shooting has because of guns.
“We look forward to participating in the next community event and without a doubt in the next Clean Up Australia Day,” she said.
