VPL: Thunder signs English striker Hopper
Dandenong Thunder has boosted its attack after signing English striker Luke Hopper. The 23 year old joins the Thunder from English club Hungerford Town after hearing rave reviews about Dandenong from past Thunder imports Chris Taylor, Kyle Lapham and Steven Cook, all of whom have played with him previously.
Hopper told Thunder Media he believed he could make an impact in the Victorian Premier League. “I’m really looking forward to getting started and having a good season with the club and hopefully winning the league like the boys did last season,” he said.
“I spoke to Cooky and the boys and they said Dandenong is a really good club which has good lads around the place and they spoke about the success it had last season. Once I spoke to CT [Thunder coach Chris Taylor] when I arrived here, I knew it would be a good place to come to, hence why I signed.”
Taylor said Hopper would form a dangerous duo with Canadian livewire Nate Foster. “Luke is a very good acquisition for us in what we’re looking to achieve, he is a proven goalscorer in the United Kingdom and will provide us with a good target up front where he has already formed a good understanding with Nate Foster,” he said.
