Salvos short of target

DANDENONG’S Salvation Army is urging the community to dig deep and donate after discovering it is more than $5000 behind its Red Shield Appeal target with only two days of collection remaining.
The Dandenong Corp was aiming to raise $10,000 from this year’s appeal after it raised $9000 last year.
Dandenong Corp major Stephen Ellis said the organisation was far from its target despite the weekend’s doorknock and this week’s shopping centre collections at Parkmore, Dandenong Plaza and Waverley Gardens.
“It’s not as good as we hoped,” he said. “So far we’ve raised about $3000 and we might make it to $5000.”
In last week’s Star, Mr Ellis appealed for volunteers to raise vital funds during its doorknock. Although the response was good, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to raise the amount of funds the corp was aiming for. “We got five or six volunteers from last week’s article, which was a positive,” he said.
Without much-needed donations, the Salvos cannot continue to run all of their local and national services.
Dandenong’s Salvos will be rattling tins until closing time tomorrow at Keysborough’s Parkmore Shopping Centre and Waverly Gardens Shopping Centre.
