COUNCILLORS have approved a 400-person grandstand for George Andrews Reserve in Dandenong.
The grandstand will provide a boost to support for the ground’s home soccer team, Dandenong Thunder, as it vies for promotion from State League One to Premier League next season.
The grandstand will be 6.4 metres high, provide eight rows of seating, and will be constructed from steel and Colorbond material.
A City of Greater Dandenong Council report says the grandstand will sit between the reserve’s two ovals, facing east towards the main ground used for match play.
One of the permit conditions is that non-reflective colours be used to paint the grandstand, as it stands as tall as an average house.
It will have a roof to shield occupants from the wet weather, the report said.
