College students aim high

NOBLE Park Secondary College is celebrating its 2013 dux, Allison Nguyen.
She achieved an ATAR score of 92.8, with classmate Stephanie Yung not far behind on 91.8.
“It was just delightful to share the celebration of those girls who’ve done exceptionally well,” principal Pam Dyson said.
The year’s Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) results were released on Monday, and Ms Dyson said the school’s overall average ATAR score had improved.
“We’ve managed to get students who are in the 80s as well,” Ms Dyson said.
“I’m always proud of the kids.
“We’re a very multicultural school with 51 different nationalities.”
Among other Greater Dandenong VCE success stories this year Dandenong High School student Mukhtar Nazari, 17.
He arrived in Australia aboard a boat as an unaccompanied minor in 2011, unable to speak English.
His highest subject score was for English – 41.88 out of 50 – and his ATAR score was 86.1.
“I only spent about seven years at school,” he said.
“I found it hard living without my family but I was determined to work hard to fill the gaps in my education and reach my goals.”
Mukhtar now has his sights set on joining the Air Force.
