GAIN an insight into running one of the fastest-growing not-for-profit food agencies at this month’s Showcasing Women in Business event.
Organised by South East Networks, the breakfast on 30 August at Sandown Racecourse is one of a series of breakfasts showcasing successful businesswomen and their paths to that success.
This month, the breakfast’s guest speakers will be Katy Barfield from SecondBite, and Jenny Pemberton Webb from the City of Greater Dandenong.
Ms Barfield will talk about ‘bridging the gap between surplus and need’ by showing how the not-for-profit sector is providing the community with essential aid.
SecondBite has made a positive contribution to the lives of underprivileged people by this year alone sourcing and distributing more than 53 tonnes of surplus food and thousands of litres of milk, to provide an incredible 210,000 meals.
Ms Barfield’s work includes partnering with the successful Choir of Hard Knocks by supplying food for its rehearsals.
Ms Pemberton-Webb is place manager for the City of Greater Dandenong and will be talking about the State Government’s $190 million Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative, and the many projects she is overseeing to spruce up central Dandenong.
