A DANDENONG assault victim last week flagged down a passing police car while he was being attacked.
The 27-year-old was talking on his mobile phone as he walked along Foster Street, Dandenong, about 9.30pm on 2 February when a thief approached him from behind and tried to snatch the device from his hand.
The thief demanded the phone, tried to force the victim backward towards Thomas Street, and punched the left side of his face when he tried to cross the road, causing minor injuries.
The victim then hailed a passing Springvale Police Station divisional van.
Police pulled over and arrested a 16-year-old Dandenong North boy who is expected to be charged with attempted robbery and assault.
