Boss in name and produce

By CASEY NEILL

BOSS Products in Dandenong started as a shoe manufacturer in the early 1980s.
Managing director Michael Boss said the company turned to automotive products following a textile and footwear industry downturn due to tariff reductions and imports.
The business still maintains its automotive componentry manufacturing arm, manufacturing polyurethane products in rigid, semi-rigid, foams and elastomers.
Its focus, however, is on building products – from render materials to stone and granite coatings, light-weight architectural mouldings and more.
“I grew up in North Dandenong and we’ve had factories in and around Dandenong for years,” Mr Boss said.
“The next few years will definitely be our biggest period of growth.”
Boss Products is the proud distributor of Swedish global leader Terraco’s finishing materials in Australia and sees this part of the business as a significant opportunity to grow.
The partnership enables Boss Products to provide a one-stop shop to builders.
Mr Boss sees great opportunities in the construction industry and Boss has already secured contracts with Porter Davis and Henley Homes.
Awards chairman James Sturgess said Boss Products had found a way to custom-make moulding lengths to eliminate joints, minimising straining and water damage on rendered surfaces.
“Their guarantee of the products for 10 years is something that is not common in the construction industry, let alone in the mouldings and render portion of the building industry,” he said.
“Their commitment to their contractors and developing long-term relationships is another element to their success, as is their ability to deliver on time and on budget.”
Mr Sturgess said Boss Products remained family-owned and operated, was consistently growing, and saw opportunities to expand rapidly over the next three to five years toward a $10 million turnover.
