A 25-YEAR-OLD Springvale man was punched in the face by thieves who then stole his cash and a mobile phone this week.
Police are investigating the robbery, which happened in a Springvale car park at 8.50pm on Tuesday night.
Police said the 25-year-old man boarded a Pakenham-bound train at Melbourne Central at 8pm.
They believed several teenage boys aged between 12 and 15 also got on the train.
This group started to move between carriages and became disruptive.
At Springvale station, the 25-year-old left the train and walked to his car, which was parked in the nearby car park.
One of the group of teenagers approached the man and asked for $2, and as the man went to get the money from his pocket the group rushed at him, with one waving a knife. The group demanded the man’s phone before punching him in the face.
After the man handed over his phone, they then demanded his wallet. The attackers took cash before returning the empty wallet and heading off down Sandown Road. The 25-year-old suffered swelling and bruising to the face but did not require medical treatment.
