Facts and figures online

PEOPLE wanting to know more about their community can access a range of population statistics at the City of Greater Dandenong’s website.
If you’ve ever wondered how many languages are spoken in Greater Dandenong, which religions are most practiced, or the history of demographic change in your suburb, then www.greaterdandenong.com holds all of the answers.
A broad range of information from the 2006 Australian Census can be found by clicking on ‘community’ and then ‘social statistics’ at the council’s website.
City of Greater Dandenong community services director June Dugina said the council provided the information to increase the community’s understanding of itself.
“There is an extensive range of really interesting information located on the council’s website,” Ms Dugina said.
“It helps individuals, community groups and organisations to know and better understand their community, and also assists with activities such as planning and advocacy.
“There is a lot of interesting information available, ranging from population, housing, and education figures, to a snapshot of our cultural diversity.”
To widen the range of information available, the City of Greater Dandenong Council has recently created an interactive information tool, known as Profile.id, which can also be found on council’s website under ‘social statistics’.
This tool is easy to use and can provide vastly improved access to information about Greater Dandenong.
Profile.id is based on 2006 Census information and describes the role and function of suburbs within the municipality, how they have changed over time and compare to other areas. Use of Profile.id does not require technical expertise and the site is easy to navigate.
For further information phone the council’s social planning and research team on 9239 5199.
