Thief can’t remember house he burgled

A JEWELLERY thief tried to lead police back to the scene of his crime in Dandenong North but took them to the wrong place because he couldn’t remember which house he burgled.
Greater Dandenong CIU Senior Constable Ben Robertson is now searching for the owners of a gold-coloured necklace and earring set and four gold-coloured rings.
On 25 March, police found a man near Waratah Avenue and Gladstone Road, Dandenong North, with the jewellery.
“He took us to the house where he stated he had taken the jewellery from,” Sen Const Robertson said.
“But our inquiries with the owner revealed that they hadn’t had their premises broken into, and they don’t own the jewellery that we’ve located.“
Sen Const Robertson said the thief was on foot so probably burgled a house nearby.
“The offender said he left the house in the same state he found it so it could be possible that the victim doesn’t even know their items are missing.”
