IF YOU are looking for a laugh this Mother’s Day look no further than HIT Productions’ latest show, Shirley Valentine.
The award winning play which won Best Comedy at the 1988 Laurence Olivier Awards is a funny, yet moving piece of theatre by award winning playwright Willy Russell.
The Drum Theatre in Dandenong will host two performances of Shirley Valentine on Friday, 16 May at noon and Saturday, 17 May at 8pm.
Drum Theatre manager Paul Streefkerk said Shirley Valentine was a wonderful story about a 42-year-old Liverpool mother and housewife who feels trapped by her life.
“The audience is presented with a woman frustrated by her mundane life and who is longing to discover the person she used to be,” he said.
“When her best friend wins an all expenses paid vacation to Greece for two, Shirley grabs the opportunity to rediscover herself, follow her dreams and gain a new lease on life.”
Mr Steefkerk said he was thrilled HIT productions had chosen to perform at The Drum Theatre.
He said the theatre was gaining a solid reputation as a high-class performance venue.
“HIT Productions has chosen to perform at The Drum Theatre in the lead-up to its national tour,” he said.
“The fact that professional companies are coming to The Drum is a testament to the quality of our facilities and that is pretty special.”
Tickets for Shirley Valentine are $35 for adults and $31 concession.
