THE driver of a 4WD believed to be involved in a fatal hit and run yesterday (Wednesday) has been interviewed by police.
Senior Sergeant Michael Talbot of the Major Collision Investigation Unit said Thiruvadivel Sriskantharajah, 29, died during the collision that occurred in Dandenong on Stud Road at the intersection of Herbert Street at 8.45am.
He said police believed the man was crossing at the lights when he was struck by a light-coloured 4WD travelling north along Stud Road.
The vehicle continued on past Heatherton Road and was sighted in Jeffery Street, Dandenong North, a short time later.
“This is an example of a callous act,” Sen Sgt Talbot said.
“It shows a blatant disregard for human life.”
Sen Sgt Talbot said the driver could face charges of culpable driving and failure to stop and give assistance.
Police were able to apprehend the driver by using a triangulation method using mobile telephones, but are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident or vehicle to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
No charges had been laid at the time of going to print.
