Makeovers for shop fronts

THE revitalisation of retail strips in Greater Dandenong was the inspiration behind a makeover of shop windows in the city.
In a bid to prepare for a more competitive retail environment, nine shops in Walker Street had the appearance of their windows altered in consultation with merchandising experts.
The manager of the Revitalising Central Dandenong Place project, Jenny Pemberton-Webb, said it was a joint initiative between the council and VicUrban and was aimed at inspiring the business community to play a role in Dandenong’s future.
“Getting the right professional expertise and an injection of creativity has helped the traders think differently about how people experience their shop window from the street,” Ms Pemberton-Webb said.
“This project is about giving retailers the skills and confidence to experiment with their shop presentation and catch the attention of passers by.”
The success of the pilot project will be monitored during the next three months, with the view that it may be tried in other parts of central Dandenong.
