New museum guided tour

HERITAGE Hill Museum and Historic Gardens has announced a new guided tour for visitors.
Previously, guided tours at Heritage Hill had only been available to groups of 10 or more people, leaving out individuals and smaller groups.
From this month, individuals and groups of less than 10 can book their places on the monthly Bowman to Benga Tour, hosted by Heritage Hill’s Public Programs and Exhibitions officer Angela Costigan.
The tour will encompass the period gardens and Heritage Hill’s two historic houses – Laurel Lodge (1869) and Benga (1936). It will provide an insight not only into the families who lived at Heritage Hill, but also Dandenong’s rich cultural history.
The Bowman to Benga tour will include access to Heritage Hill’s art exhibitions and background information on the displays.
Devonshire tea will be available after the tours in the Langley Gallery.
Why is the tour called Bowman to Benga?
From 1861, Bowmans were the first owners of the land, on which Laurel Lodge was built.
The tour spans the history of Heritage Hill from the Bowmans of Laurel Lodge to the Harts of Benga from 1936-1987.
Tours run on the last Thursday of the month from 10am, with the next tour scheduled for 30 April.
Tours run for around one hour, followed by Devonshire tea.
Tour only costs $5 per person; tour and Devonshire tea $10 per person.
Bookings are essential owing to limited numbers. Phone 9793 4511 or email heritagehill@cgd.vic.gov.au.
