NOBLE Park North has a new street.
Wimpole Street will replace the western part of Mollision Street to avoid confusion for drivers since EastLink has been opened.
The name was decided at last week’s council meeting, after the dissected street caused concern for emergency services and visitors to the area.
The western part of Mollison Street contained 31 residential properties, meaning that all properties will be renumbered.
At its 9 February meeting, council decided that residents would have the choice of Wimpole or Sheoak Street.
Fredrick Wimpole was a Dandenong Shire councillor from 1891 to 1892 and purchased 80 acres in the ward. Sheoak is an indigenous tree species found in the area.
While there was a low response from residents to provide a clear indication of preference between the two proposed names, it was realised that a Sheoak Street already existed in Doveton and that it would be unlikely that the name would be approved.
Corporate Services Director Mick Jaensch said all residents would receive notification of the name change via letter.
