Springvale shines over falling Stars

By Stuart Teather
SPRINGVALE White Eagles secured three desperately needed points in their State League One clash with local rival Southern Stars on Saturday.
Both sides were on five points and near the bottom of the ladder heading into the clash, and it was the White Eagles who triumphed 4-1 at White Eagles Stadium.
Up 1-0 at half time, the White Eagles piled on another three in the second half to flatten the Stars and put their season in jeopardy.
For the White Eagles, Gordan Mdric, Tome Racunica and Zoran Vukas all scored, with a fourth coming from an own goal, while for the Stars Rasim Sezgi scored his side’s only goal.
The Stars are now in the danger zone in 11th place, one point clear of bottom side Frankston, while the White Eagles jumped up to eighth with the win.
In State League Two South East action, Heatherton United and South Springvale played out another local derby, with United taking the win 2-1.
The Souths led at the break 1-0 but two second-half goals to Alil Memedovski sealed the game for United, propelling the side to fourth on the ladder.
Dandenong City scored its third win of the season with a 2-0 win against Knox City at Frank Holohan Soccer Reserve.
In State League Three South East, Noble Park United hammered bottom side Sandringham City 3-0 while Springvale City surrendered top spot on the ladder, going down to Berwick City 2-0.
There will be no games this weekend with the teams taking a break over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
