Police praised after break-in ordeal

By Melissa Meehan
A NOBLE PARK grandmother has praised local police who cared for her after her home was broken into while she was asleep inside.
Edris Dorraty, 71, said she has been left mentally scarred since she woke to find a man in her bedroom—the second time her home had been broken into in three weeks.
“He saw that I was awake and told me that he would not harm me as long as I didn’t call the police,” Ms Dorraty said.
“He didn’t hurt me, and he didn’t steal anything either.
“But it gave me a terrible fright.”
Ms Dorraty said when police arrived they brought the whole “kit and caboodle”.
“They had lots of police and sniffer dogs,” she said.
“The whole street was lit up.”
Police then drove Ms Dorraty to her son’s place in Carrum Downs because they worried she should not be left alone after such a scary incident.
“I think they thought I was going to have a heart attack,” she said.
“But it was so lovely of them to drive me so far.”
She said that she has since had extra security added to her home with the help of the City of Greater Dandenong.
