POLICE are calling on witnesses to an assault and robbery at Dandenong railway station early on Tuesday morning.
A 43-year-old Doveton man was attacked by a group of men believed to be of African origin as he climbed the stairs at the station at 1am. The man told police he was on the concourse level at the Dandenong station when he was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette.
When he told the man he was too young to smoke, two other men approached him and threatened him. The man was assaulted and suffered a cut lip and a cut to the head.
The offenders then fled taking the man’s wallet. The man was discovered by Connex staff who called an ambulance.
He was taken to Dandenong Hospital with facial lacerations.
