Train surfers caught out

POLICE have interviewed two youths after Connex staff spotted two boys train surfing in Officer last Thursday.
Connex spokesman John Rees has condemned the behaviour and has warned others against taking the potentially fatal risk.
“There’s a $250 fine but the most harsh penalty is if they were to fall, which would have most likely been fatal,” he said.
Mr Rees said a worrying number of young people were riding on the back of carriages right around the train network. He said the behaviour was sometimes associated with graffiti.
Police have interviewed two youths, from Hampton Park and Keysborough.
Mr Rees urged people to report all incidences of train surfing, behind or on top of carriages, to local police, station staff or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
