Taking a new path

By Lia Bichel
ABOUT 300 students from multicultural backgrounds recently attended an education forum at Chisholm TAFE to learn life management skills.
Southern Integrated CALD Child and Family Service Network (SICCFN) with Windermere Child and Family Services and member service providers hosted the event that marked the network’s three year anniversary.
The network’s key role has been to ensure migrants and refugees have received relevant information, support and advocacy to improve their well-being.
Speakers from more than 40 services provided information such as education and training, career pathways, social services, financial counselling, money management and family support.
After three months of planning, Centrelink multicultural service officer Rick Comfort said the event was a success.
“Students received a lot of important information about their career pathways,” he said.
Because of its popularity, Mr Comfort said he hoped it would become an annual event, pending on funding.
“Chisholm did a wonderful job, as well as the Dandenong Lions Club who held the barbecue at the end,” he said.
