Girlz Unlimited is an eight-week program which will engage young women in educational workshops and health and well-being activities.
It is open for girls aged between 14 and 16 who live, work or study in the City of Greater Dandenong.
The program is free and will consist of weekly one-hour workshops around self development.
Topics discussed will include healthy living, self-esteem, healthy relationships and leadership.
A one-hour workshop in self defence, which is run by qualified female instructor, will follow.
City of Greater Dandenong Youth Services counselling and support leader Sylvia Marov encouraged all young girls to get involved.
“This brand new program came out of our summer holiday workshop program,” she said.
“We found there was in increase in the number of girls wanting to have a safe space to learn techniques of self defence and ways to increase their self esteem.
“It’s a really great self-development course.”
While the first eight-week program will be run in Noble Park, Ms Marov said if it’s successful, the council planned to run it in different locations around the city.
The program will run every Tuesday from February 15 at the Paddy O’Donoghue Centre, Buckley Street, Noble Park.
