Funny girls give

Musical comedian Geraldine Quinn is set to take part in the third annual, one-night-only giggle fest for a good cause – Short and Girly.
She will star alongside some of Australia’s funniest female comedians for the comedy gala, with all funds raised going to the Victorian AIDS Council.
Other comedians to take to the stage for the event include Julia Zemiro, Fiona O’Loughlin and Cal Wilson. And while these girls are all accomplished performers, Ms Quinn has also made her mark in the comic world since 2004.
She has starred on Spicks and Specks, the Comedy Channel, twice guested on ABC Radio’s Comedy Hour and was nominated for a 2010 Golden Gibbo for ‘Shut Up and Sing’.
Ms Quinn said she was thrilled to be involved in the show.
“Often as a performer there are times when you haven’t got the money to give to great causes like this,” she said, “so it’s great when I can give up my time instead for a good cause.
“An event like this gives you the opportunity to contribute in a way that’s possible.”
Ms Quinn’s journey as a performer and comedian all started in the local area.
She was born in Wagga Wagga, NSW, but moved to Noble Park with her family at a young age.
She attended St Anthony’s Primary School and later St Johns Regional College in Dandenong.
“I had a music teacher at St Johns who first got me to sing solo, I didn’t think I could,” she said.
“From that moment on I pursued music.”
Ms Quinn said while she hadn’t decided what her exact performance for the gala would be she promised it will include spandex.
Short and Girly will be held on Saturday 12 February at the National Theatre, 20 Carlisle Street, St Kilda.
