School on a high

By Bridget Cook
Education Minister Martin Dixon officially opened the facility – a $10 million construction of four new learning centres, each which will accommodate up to 300 students across Years 7 to12.
The bright, open-plan learning centres feature an innovative, green-friendly design and incorporate a mix of separated teaching spaces and internal common areas.
“The four new learning centres, with their mix of separate teaching spaces and internal common areas in this contemporary learning environment, will support the high-quality education being delivered at Dandenong High School,” Mr Dixon said.
This latest project brings the number of learning centres at Dandenong High School to seven – and complements the three learning centres that were completed during the stage one building works in 2009.
Dandenong High School was established in 1919 and is the oldest school – government or independent – in Melbourne’s outer east. The school has an enrolment of 2045 students across Years 7 to 12.
Mr Dixon said Dandenong High School had a long history of providing an outstanding education to students from diverse backgrounds.
“With the opening of stage two, Dandenong High School enters the next phase of its life, with new facilities ensuring generations will receive a great education and realise their full potential.”
Mr Dixon also commended the fund-raising efforts of Dandenong High School students and the local community, who raised about $30,000 to go towards the purchase of furniture for the new facilities.
