GREATER Dandenong council’s pilot CCTV program has proved a success, having already assisted police to make arrests.
Police have utilised the CCTV system since the pilot commenced in late 2009, as part of their investigations into incidents within the precinct.
Recently, CCTV footage obtained from the Menzies Avenue based camera has assisted police with a number of investigations – and has even led to arrests.
Greater Dandenong mayor Roz Blades said the advancement of technology had allowed police to view high-quality vision of incidents within the precinct.
“If any incident occurs within the area, there is a big chance it will be captured on the CCTV system,” she said.
“Police are using vision obtained from CCTV to assist with their investigations as well as present evidence in formal proceedings.”
The CCTV pilot continues to produce positive results, with a substantial reduction in graffiti and public drinking within the precinct.
“Traders, residents, hall users and Victoria Police are extremely supportive of the CCTV pilot program,” Cr Blades said.
“We believe the pilot program will continue to have a positive impact around the Menzies Avenue precinct.”
