Set for a long walk

By Nicole Williams
The Frail Crusaders team completed the charity event last year and has recruited a second team, Quantum Feet, for this year’s walk.
Each team of four will gather donations and then walk 100km in 48 hours from Jells Park in Wheelers Hill to Wesburn Park in the Yarra Valley on 1-3 April.
The two Fantech teams, of four people, have pledged $5000 each for Oxfam Australia and are halfway to raising the amounts.
Fantech Quality Officer Christine Thompson completed the walk last year and is excited to give it another go.
“I decided to do it again and convinced the same team to come on board and four more people for a second team,” Ms Thompson said.
“It is a good way to support people more needy than us.”
The teams are training hard, completing walks at all times of the day and night and in all conditions to prepare for the circumstances of the day.
“By the time we do the walk we would have walked 500 kilometres,” Ms Thompson said.
“We’re just looking forward to getting to the day and achieving what we’ve trained for.”
She said that teams were very supportive of each other during the walk and time went very quickly.
“It’s just quite exciting on the day but it’s over before you know it.”
Frail Crusaders completed the event in 32 hours last year and hope to make it across the finish line in 30 hours next month.
The two teams will also be encouraged by a support crew during the walk.
All money raised goes to Oxfam Australia to support its aid and development work.
