A BEACONSFIELD man was driven to the police station on the bonnet of a car, after a violent confrontation in Dandenong last week.
And the Dandenong man who did the driving could be facing serious charges in relation to the incident.
Police believe the 34-year-old man and a 51-year-old Beaconsfield man were involved in a road rage incident on Frankston-Dandenong Road just before 12.40pm on Saturday 7 July.
When the cars stopped at the traffic lights of the Princes Highway and Webster Street, the Beaconsfield man approached the driver’s side window of the red KIA four-wheel-drive.
He banged on the window and yelled at the Dandenong driver, who had his wife and preschool aged children in the car.
The driver tried to reverse away but the Beaconsfield man jumped on his bonnet.
The vehicle then travelled one kilometre to the Dandenong Police Station with the man on the bonnet of the car.
Police estimate the car was travelling at between 20km/h and 30km/h.
Police believe the driver or a passenger were also on the phone to emergency services and filming the incident during the dangerous drive.
All parties were interviewed by police and released on summons.
The Dandenong man is facing possible charges of reckless conduct endangering serious injury and the Beaconsfield man may be charged with unlawful assault.
Detective Senior Constable Alistair Boyd said the man possibly didn’t release the severity of his actions.
In that situation the driver should have stayed in his car and called triple zero, Det Sen Const Boyd said.
Noel McNamara from the Crime Victims Support Association said he believed the man did the right thing.
“It is so trivial. The guy did the right thing and he might get prosecuted for it.”
Mr McNamara said it was atrocious the man could face serious charges for protecting himself.
“If someone jumps on your car, you’re entitled to protect yourself and your property,” he said.
“If you’re feeling in danger and threatened then it should over-ride anything else.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged on contact Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit on 9767 7487 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
