AN attempt to set a Dandenong North house on fire after racial slurs were spray painted on the premises has alarmed Dandenong Police.
Detectives at Dandenong’s Crime Investigation Unit have this week spoken out against the act of discrimination and have warned such actions will not be tolerated.
Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Sergeant Terry Kane said police were investigating an ‘attack’ on the Orchid Avenue property during the early hours of Wednesday, 11 October.
“The offenders have spray painted the words ‘Muslim terrorist’ and other slogans on the house and doused the front of the premises with an accelerant (diesel),” he said.
“Fortunately they were unsuccessful in setting the premises alight and only minor damage was caused to a fence.”
Det Sen Sgt Terry Kane said the house’s elderly couple was home at the time of the attack.
“This type of behaviour cannot be tolerated within our community,” he said. “We are a multicultural society and everyone should be able feel safe here no matter what their race or religious beliefs. Anyone that may have information that would assist should contact police.”
