AUSTRALIAN basketball legend Andrew Gaze , pictured right, entertained guests at the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Premier Regional Business Awards breakfast on Wednesday.
Of most interest was Gaze’s description of his part in television show Dancing with the Stars, and how he managed to convince his wife that dancing with a beautiful young lady was purely for the sake of showbusiness.
Another highlight was Gaze’s story of how former Boomers captain Phil Smyth managed to crack a joke during a tense final minute of a crucial 1988 Olympic basketball quarter final against Spain.
Gaze said the team doctor, a Korean woman, checked the captain’s groin area for injury after he fell to the ground.
After a moment of enjoyment, Gaze said Smyth revealed that the pain was in fact a broken thumb.
Other stars included the three Greater Dandenong businesses nominated for the 2007 Premier Regional Business Awards.
