Sunday blues for bowlers

IN the first Royal Victorian Bowls Association game of the weekend double header, Burden Park’s Premier Side at home got up by three shots against Bundoora 92-89.
Travelling all the way across to Lalor on the Sunday and confident after Saturday’s win the Premier side faltered, winning only one rink and losing 103-86.
The second side on Saturday proved again to be a surprise as it downed the unbeaten Mooroolbark 99-93.
At home on Sunday against Blackburn in a game that was level on the 99th end, Blackburn picked up three shots and won the game in the nail-biting finish.
After the previous week’s defeat the third side rebounded against local rivals Noble Park 98-91.
The Sunday game saw this side at Waverley Golf, where it lost 97-85.
The up and down season of the fourth side continued this week as it tackled Noble Park’s second side, defeated on all rinks 102-66.
At home on Sunday against Bennetswood in a game as close as the second side’s, the fourth team went down in the last few ends by two shots 93-91.
After last week’s win the fifth side celebrated again this week with a resounding victory against Glen Eira 102-74.
On Sunday the team met Edithvale at home and was beaten 106-69.
Cranbourne accounted for the sixth side 99-84, and on Sunday Ferntree Gully beat Burden Park 77-10, thus completing what was a disastrous day for Burden Park on which all sides lost.
Burden Park’s top Victorian Ladies’ Bowls Association pennant team continued on its merry winning way again this week, defeating Hampton by 30 shots 113-83.
Skip Betty Gooch with Frances Ruish, Judy Lane and Helen Alexander were the best rink in this game.
The second side at home to Edithvale was not good enough, going down 76-98.
The third side, again assisted by the inclusion of affiliated male bowlers, was far too good for Brighton Beach and won 54-34.
Best rink was J. Martin(s), Barbara Vittek, Eugine Mirabelli and Maria Piccinini.
