PLANS for stage two of the Dandenong Market’s redevelopment have been submitted to the State Government for further direction.
The City of Greater Dandenong last week announced the submission and said details would be finalised next year.
The council says it will hold Stage Two information sessions for the public during February.
Stage One was completed with the October opening of the Aldi Supermarket and the creation of the Market’s Waste Management Compound, which now means all waste materials generated at the market are separated and recycled appropriately.
Stage Two will include the construction of a new and improved General Merchandise Hall and improvements to the fresh fruit and vegetable area. A wide range of new shopping opportunities will be added to the market with the creation of a produce zone, featuring speciality international food items including herbs, preserves and gourmet ingredients.
There will also be new meat, fish and poultry shops, and a food court plaza to allow shoppers to sit down for a drink and bite to eat.
The General Merchandise Hall will occupy what is currently the upper deck of the market’s multilevel car park.
Works will commence mid-2007.
Plans will be available for viewing at the City of Greater Dandenong’s Customer Service Centres in Dandenong and Springvale and in the Dandenong Market in the new year.
