Drug lab find a ‘breakthrough’

Sarah Schwager
A CLANDESTINE amphetamine laboratory was discovered in Noble Park in a major covert drug operation which ended last Thursday.
Police arrested 13 people and laid 34 charges for cannabis and amphetaminerelated offences as a result of the Noble Park swoop.
Senior Sergeant Stephen Fyffe of Frankston CIU said a man was arrested at the Frankston train station on 3 November after dogs from the Drug Squad detected a large quantity of amphetamine.
“After further inquiries, a search warrant was executed at his house where we located a sophisticated clandestine laboratory,” Sen Sgt Fyffe said.
A man has been remanded in custody to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court early next year.
Sen Sgt Fyffe said Operation Hoops, which ran from 24 October to 10 November, had delivered successful results.
“The discovery of this amphetamine laboratory is a major breakthrough,” he said.
“In finding the lab we’ve stopped a large quantity of drugs from ending up on the streets.”
