Jazz in the open air

DANDENONG North this month will host Jazz in the Park, a free concert in Tirhatuan Park.
Jazz in the Park follows last year’s successful Music in the Park program, run by the City of Greater Dandenong council.
Residents again will be treated to a vibrant mix of musical talent while enjoying the great outdoors.
Back by popular demand, the headline performer is Motown legend Gil Askey and his five-piece jazz combo.
Gil has worked with the likes of Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder and the Jackson Five.
He was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Lady Sings the Blues.
The event will also feature t6he Warblers Jazz Trio.
Greater Dandenong council’s community services director June Dugina said she hoped Jazz in the Park would bring all elements of the Greater Dandenong community together.
“This event is a great way to enjoy the city in which we live and is a wonderful community building day,” she said.
Local service clubs will host food stalls at the event.
This Jazz in the Park concert will be held on Sunday 10 December between noon and 4pm, and the series will continue with another free concert in April 2007.
Tirhatuan Park is in Outlook Drive, Dandenong North, Melway reference 81 F8.
