THE Springvale North Tennis Club started the Grade Two pennant season in superb form, acing its way to a three rubbers to one victory against North Ringwood on Sunday.
Team coach and number one player Stephen Sruk was in devastating form, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Steven Nguyen overcame a second set slip-up to win 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 and Trent Cobb prevailed 6-2, 6-1 in his match. It was Cobb’s first game for Springvale North and his powerful serve and punishing groundstrokes were too strong for his opponent.
Zelko Lovric could not complete the clean sweep, going down 6-7, 0-6.
After losing a nail-biting first set tiebreak 8-6, Lovric was blown away in the second set.
This Sunday Springvale North travels to Kooyong for doubles and Sruk is expecting a tough encounter.
“It’s going to be a battle,” he said.
“Henryk Pawlukowski is returning from a knee injury and will replace Lovric in the team.
“David Fonseca is progressing well after injuring his ankle and will be available for singles the following week.”
