Garden theft growing

SPRINGVALE Police want residents to report any thefts of plants or garden ornaments and equipment, following a series of recent complaints in Noble Park.
The Star has heard from several residents whose plants and ceramic pots have been stolen from their front yards.
A Fintonia Road resident, who didn’t want to be named, said her neighbourhood had been targeted recently.
“Someone dug out my neighbour’s azaleas, and other plants have been taken in their pots,” she said.
In a letter to the editor last week, Carl de Hoedt of Noble Park said four orchid pot plants were stolen from his garden, and another eight were stolen from his neighbour.
Senior Sergeant Greg Dixon from Springvale Police said he was not aware of any recent reports of plant theft.
“We know of garden gnomes going missing occasionally on a Friday or Saturday night, but we’ve had nothing reported at all about the theft of plants,” he said.
“If people have had plants stolen, they should definitely report it. Let us know.”
Springvale Police can be contacted on 9546 3044.
