Music for Rachel

SPRINGVALE’S Rachel Monty never imagined her involvement with the Muso Network would land her the honour of Greater Dandenong’s Young Citizen of the Year.
She joined the musically minded youth group more than four years ago, has been the Muso Network chairwoman for the past two years, and said her time spent with the group had helped enhance her life skills.
“The network is about looking after young people, guiding them and helping them learn,” Ms Monty said.
Ms Monty said the Muso Network helped educate young people on the production side of music.
“It is typically educationbased. We hypothesise how events will go and analyse how past events have gone,” she said.
Ms Monty said she was incredibly honoured by the award.
“I am told it is not every year they award the Young Citizen,” she said.
“It is fantastic to see young people recognised for the work they do.
“There are so many youth programs, you wouldn’t know how many young people volunteer countless hours (to them).”
Ms Monty thanked her fellow Muso members for their help and teachings.
