GREATER Dandenong Council has approved its first business-only delegation to the sister city of Xuzhou, in China.
The move is an attempt to cut back on costly delegations involving councillors and the mayor and focus on trade deals between Greater Dandenong and Xuzhou businesses.
The business-only delegation will still cost ratepayers $13,000 to send the council’s business development manager Ron Ghiggino, economic development officer Paul Dowling, and translator Rong Fan economy class to China.
Business representatives will pay their own way in a bid to tour Xuzhou’s economic and open trade channels with China.
The delegation will depart in April and has so far attracted the interest of eight businesses.
