Ball cash on song, says mayor

MARIA Sampey, mayor of Greater Dandenong, believes she has been vindicated after the financial breakdown of her mayoral ball in July went through council last week.
Fellow councillor Naim Melhem asked for the figures from the ball to be detailed during discussions about council’s financial performance report.
Cr Sampey said the figures, released last week, spoke for themselves.
They showed 628 tickets were sold at $65 each, netting $40,820.
Raffles, donations and auctions generated more than $17,000, while the total expenditure was $36,000.
This left a profit of $22,400, from which $14,200 went to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Clinic, $4100 to the Dandenong Benevolent Society and $4100 to the Springvale Benevolent Society.
