MIRIAM Stone has won Greater Dandenong’s Australia Day Non-Resident of the Year.
With her solid contribution to the community for more than 25 years, Ms Stone has continued her commitments even though she now lives in the City of Casey.
Greater Dandenong mayor John Kelly said he admired her enthusiasm to help others and make the city a better place.
She began her community work at Maralinga Primary School in 1981 where she volunteered in the school library and the school uniform shop.
For more than 20 years she worked with others to raise funds for Apex Dandenong.
Ms Stone spent many hours preparing and manning the stand at the Dandenong Show.
She was also a member of the committee that established Life Education program in Dandenong, Springvale and Chelsea.
The program is aimed at drug and health education for primary school children.
Cr Kelly said that her efforts had an impact on the education of thousands of school children throughout Greater Dandenong and beyond.
“Miriam’s work with Maralinga Primary School and Life Education in Dandenong deserves particular recognition,” said Cr Kelly.
