A BOLLYWOOD policy targeting the region’s Indian community would be a boon for local performers, artists and those with technical skills, the Liberal Party says.
On day one of the official State Election campaign trail, Liberal candidate for the South Eastern Metropolitan Region of the Upper House, Inga Peulich, announced the party’s Bollywood policy.
Ms Peulich said the idea behind the policy was to cultivate economic and cultural ties with India and South East Asia.
According to Ms Peulich, the Bollywood for Melbourne policy incorporates:
• Involving and consulting with the local Indian community, including forming a committee of stakeholders to help promote Bollywood productions in India and Victoria;
• Appointing a well known Bollywood personality to be an Ambassador for Victoria to help attract more Bollywood productions, tourists and international students to Victoria;
• Establishing a Bollywood Film Festival as a permanent part of the annual Melbourne cultural calendar, including releasing world premieres of new productions and facilitate a technical exchange program between the Indian and Victorian film and music industries.
The policy also suggests a Bollywood Film Festival would be held ‘to facilitate a technical exchange program between the Indian and Victorian film and music industries’.
