NEW healthy canteen and sports facilities will be installed at Noble Park’s Harrisfield Primary School thanks to a $6000 State Government grant.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews this week visited the school to announce the funds.
The school will spend the money on a fitness trail around the basketball court and an industrial-sized fridge for the new canteen area.
“Since 2003, the Brumby Government has invested $150 million in the Go for Your Life initiative,” Mr Andrews said.
“The Go for Your Life Healthy Start in Schools program has distributed $3.5 million worth of grants to Victorian schools to finance extra sporting and canteen equipment and facilities.
“Go For Your Life aims to increase physical activity and healthy eating among all Victorians through a range of co-ordinated projects, strategies and campaigns.
“A recent report by the Department of Human Services indicated that by 2025, 37 per cent of boys and 33 per cent of girls aged five to 19 in Victoria could be overweight or obese.
“But schools can play a crucial role in ensuring that these startling statistics never eventuate by doing many things to improve the health and wellbeing of their students.
“We expect Go for Your Life and other Brumby Government initiatives to be at the forefront.”
Hearty and healthy
