DURING a crackdown on dangerous driving in Noble Park, police booked one driver for travelling at 190km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Traffic police conducted Operation TriSat on Friday night and handed out 74 infringement notices to drivers to send a strong message – unnecessary deaths on Greater Dandenong’s roads must end.
The 74 offences detected on the night included drink driving, speeding, unlicensed driving, unregistered cars, disobeying traffic signs and lights, illegal car modifications, using mobile phones while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt.
Senior Sergeant Ron Perrett of the Regional Traffic Tasking Unit said the operation would be the first of many heading into the warmer months.
This year seven people have been killed in Greater Dandenong, including Noble Park.
Police have also impounded vehicles from 14 Noble Park residents.
“We want drivers who are choosing to come to Noble Park and the surrounding areas who act irresponsibly to be fully aware that a strong police presence is going to be around,” Sen Sgt Perrett said.
“We’ll have a number of marked and unmarked vehicles on active patrol to ensure road safety is not compromised for everyone else. Drivers who congregate in this area for the purpose of engaging in activities that jeopardise the safety of road users can expect to see a highly visible police presence as we head towards the end of the year.”
