DINGLEY coach Adam Quinn says his Dingoes will be “looking for retribution” when they begin their Division Two finals campaign against Heatherton on Saturday.
The Dingoes were headed for a perfect season before the Tonners snatched a one-point away victory at Souter Reserve three weeks ago, so Quinn’s charges will be keen to assert their authority in Saturday’s qualifying final.
It would take a major upset next week to prevent these sides from meeting in the grand final, but the winner of Saturday’s game will have the luxury of a weekend off before a likely rematch in the premiership decider.
Heatherton’s Brent Williams proved to be the match-winner last time the sides met, booting seven of his team’s 10 goals for the afternoon.
Dingo defender Daniel Atkin got the job that day and is likely to get first crack again on Saturday, but Quinn is hatching a plan to thwart the former Adelaide and Noble Park gun this weekend.
“We’ve got a few different options if Danny gets beaten, but we’re planning to change a few things up the ground, apply more pressure and make it harder for them to get in his hands,” he said.
The playing-coach has missed the last three months with a knee injury, and says he is only an outside chance of returning in the finals.
Dingley has waited 12 months to make amends for its grand final loss to Springvale Districts last season, and, ironically, that road to redemption has led back to Springvale Reserve for this year’s finals series.
The loser of Saturday’s game will play Oakleigh Districts in the preliminary final.
