Service recalls police sacrifice

POLICE and government officials from Melbourne’s south-east stopped to remember officers killed in the line of duty this week.
Springvale Botanical Cemetery’s Police Memorial hosted the End of Day Reflection for National Police Remembrance Day on Monday.
Police chaplain Reverend Dr John Broughton and Police Acting Superintendent Tom Rawlings gave the first and second reflections.
Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews and Police Minister Bob Cameron also read at the ceremony.
Mr Andrews and Mr Cameron laid a wreath on behalf ofPremier John Brumby, while Andrew McIntosh, Liberal police spokesman, laid one on behalf of Opposition leader Ted Baillieu.
A total of 150 Victoria Police members have been killed in the line of duty.
Springvale Botanical Cemetery CEO Russ Allison said the service honoured the memories of police who had given their lives in serving the community.
“It is an opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful contribution police make to our daily lives and to remember those who have been lost in serving the community,” he said.
