DOVETON Special Soccer School players have rubbed shoulders with some of Melbourne Victory’s best players during a family day.
The event also included Victoria Police Soccer Club (VPSC) members, who took on the DSSS in a friendly match.
The game, played at Port Melbourne, was won by DSSS for the eighth consecutive year.
The Doveton players, who suffer from a form of intellectual disability, won a thrilling match by one goal.
After a barbecue lunch, DSSS players, carers, and families were taken by police bus to Telstra Dome, where they had the opportunity to go out on the ground and watch Melbourne warm-up.
The group also got to meet Victory coach Ernie Merrick.
DSSS then took their seats at the stadium and cheered Victory on to a comfortable win over Perth Glory.
VPSC president Senior Sergeant Ron Sinclair said the family day was one of the most important dates on the calendar.
“DSSS is an excellent team, both on and off the pitch, and they always manage to defeat us.”
Sen Sgt Sinclair said Victory was very generous in supplying free tickets to the match.
“It was an unforgettable night for all the DSSS players and families.”
