VARIETY is the key. That was the word from Greater Dandenong councillors at last week’s council meeting discussing their annual community concert.
Last week councillors agreed that the concert, usually held in December, would be moved to January in 2009 and renamed the Summer Community Concert.
Cr Maria Sampey said she was happy to support the motion to move the concert until 2009, but was uncomfortable with the plan to secure the Australian Army Band Melbourne for the next three years.
“Why can’t there be variety?” Cr Sampey asked. “I just feel that there needs to be more variety than the same plan for the next three years.”
She said other local acts should be looked at when planning future concerts.
The council agreed to look at alternative entertainment for the 2009/10 and 2010/11 concert series.
