A VICIOUS assault on Christmas Eve has left a couple nursing wounds and the Dandenong Criminal Investigation Unit detectives appealing for witnesses.
Police said just before 11.30pm a couple went outside to investigate noises in front of their Noble Park house.
A group of four males was across the road from the couple’s house and it appeared they had kicked over a bin.
When the male victim, 56, asked them to stop kicking over the bins, three men in the group approached him and punched and kicked him repeatedly while he was on the ground.
The victim’s wife, 68, screamed at the group to stop and ran to his aid. The three men punched her in the face several times, knocked her to the ground, told her to “shut up,” and left the scene.
Police have been told the men laughed continually throughout the attack.
Police are appealing for one member of the group, the fourth man, to come forward. He is described as being Asian with a stocky build and was wearing a baseball cap at the time of the incident.
Police said the man told the other men to “stop it” and tried to get them to leave. He also helped the woman to her feet and apologised for the group’s actions.
The three attackers are described as dark skinned, about 175 to180 cm tall, aged approximately 17 to18 years with short black hair, and two of the three were wearing white T-shirts.
Police have spoken to a 16-year-old Dandenong youth, but have released him pending further inquiries.
